Best Time to Cruise the Caribbean (Month-by-Month Guide)
By Roger Strickland · January 15, 2026 · Last updated June 20, 2026· 6 min read
When you sail decides what you pay, what the weather looks like, and how crowded the ports feel. Here's the month-by-month breakdown we walk every client through.
The short answer
Late November through mid-April is the sweet spot. The water is calm, the rain is rare, and the trade winds keep things pleasant. The trade-off: it's the most expensive window, and the ships are full.
If you want the best weather/price balance, look at late April, May, or early November - shoulder seasons when prices drop 20-30% but the weather still holds.
Month-by-month breakdown
Here's how each month tends to feel in the Eastern and Southern Caribbean - the two regions we book most often.
- January to February: Peak weather, peak prices. Book 8-12 months ahead.
- March: Spring break weeks push family-cruise prices up. Adults-only ships get quieter.
- April: Easter spike, then a dip. Mid-to-late April is one of our favorite weeks.
- May: Excellent weather, lower prices, lighter crowds. Underrated.
- June: Hurricane season starts June 1, but big storms are rare this early.
- July to August: Hot, humid, family-heavy. Good deals if you don't mind crowds.
- September to October: Peak hurricane risk. Cheapest fares of the year - travel insurance is a must.
- November (first 2 weeks): Storms wind down, prices stay low. A great hidden window.
- Late November to December: Holiday surge starts. Christmas week is the priciest of the year.
What about hurricane season?
Caribbean hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30, but ships don't sit still - if a storm forms, the cruise line reroutes. You may swap St. Thomas for Aruba, but you'll still sail. We always recommend trip insurance for September and October cruises.
